The best portraits
convey a search for truth. They require active listening and careful
observation to capture "the unique" in a person.
There is a process. It begins with putting the subject at ease in an
environment that is
relaxed, comfortable, and inviting and then engaging him or her; making
a connection
that builds a trust so that honesty can happen.
Great portraits require tact, patience, and the experience of
accommodating a wide range of personalities. The photographer must
balance (and rebalance) all the elements of subject, environment, and
context to create images that resonate, while striving to make the
